statue

when i was a child
i closed my eyes tightly
planted my feet
stood statue still
and waited
i swore i could feel the world
spinning beneath my feet
while hurtling through space
on its trajectory
now the world spins
much more
deliberately
as it arcs through time
compressed and released
in bursts
of life and death
